How to enable the "allow less secure apps to access your Gmail account" feature

This is a quick summary of how to enable "allow less secure apps to access your Gmail account" feature. By enabling this feature, your Gmail account could be used by devices such as ESP8266 / ESP32 to send you email notifications.

1. Open Gmail;




2. Check on the user icon on the upper right-hand corner, then click on "Google Account".


3. Click on "Security" on the left.


4. Scroll down until you find "Less secure app access". By default, this feature is turned off (as shown below).


5. Click on "Turn on access (not recommended)".

Click on the switch on the right of "Allow less secure apps: OFF".


Allow less secure apps is now turned on.


Click on the back arrow to return to the previous page.


6. Scroll down to confirm that the "Less secure app access" feature is now turned on.


***IMPORTANT***

1. For security reason, don't enable this feature for your primary Gmail account. Be sure to enable 2-step verification for your primary Gmail account. For more info., please refer to the info. at https://www.google.com/landing/2step/
