The device is powered by 2 AAA batteries and it's only powered on when the door / window is open (the magnet is removed from the device). As soon as the door / window is closed (the magnet is placed right next to the device), the device is powered off and it remains in the power off state until the door / window is open again.
Because no power is consumed by the board when the window / door is closed, the life of the battery is mainly determined by how often and how long the door / window is open. To help better determine the time for replacing the batteries, the voltage level of the battery is sent together with each email / instant message sent.
For those who like to tinker, the Tx, Rx, and GND pins are exposed for you to upload your custom firmware.
Device Configuration
The sensor is configured via a web interface that launches after pressing the on-board "P_FLASH" button. The web interface could be accessed via a smartphone / tablet / laptop.
Note,
*1 - It's the name and password of the wireless router / access point that you want the sensor to connect to. Be sure to connect the sensor device to a wireless router / access point that has a reliable internet connection; otherwise, the sensor device won't be able to send you notice when the door / window is open;
*2 - It's the name and password of the access point launches by the sensor device which hosts the management web interface. In the case above, "AutoConnectAP" is the name of the access point that you need to connect your smartphone / tablet / laptop to in order to access the management web interface;
*3 - It's the e-mail address and password used to access the email server for sending notification email. Currently, the firmware supports sending email via Gmail's SMTP server. Note that you need to follow the instruction provided by Google to enable less secure app to access your email in order to use this feature. ***IMPORTANT NOTICE ON HOW TO CONSERVE BATTERY POWER***
- When the device is connected to a wireless AP, immediately after sending the door / window open alarm, the device will enter into deep sleep to conserve battery power (even when the door / window is still open);

If the device is not connected to any wireless AP, it WILL NOT send door / window open alarm and it WILL NOT enter into deep sleep (it will remain power-on with AutoConnectAP turned on to allow for network connectivity configuration). When this happens, the battery could be drained completely dry in less than 30 minutes. Therefore, it's recommended to remove the battery from the device during transportation and only install battery to the device when there is working wireless AP nearby and you are ready to configure the device to connect to that wireless AP.
